About the position

The Team Physician at Princeton University provides specialized musculoskeletal care to the student athlete population, serving as a key member of the Athletic Medicine team. This temporary position involves direct clinical care, event coverage, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the health and safety of varsity athletes. The physician will also engage in administrative duties and maintain professional standards while participating in ongoing training and development.

Responsibilities

  • Provides acute care, appointments, inpatient care, day call, and on-call coverage as a UHS physician.
  • Evaluates and manages patient problems in a primary care setting.
  • Assesses laboratory reports and x-rays, performs minor surgical procedures, and makes referrals to specialists.
  • Covers evening appointments and training room hours as needed.
  • Provides athletic medicine services to non-varsity athletes and emergency services as a sideline physician for high-risk sports.
  • Determines eligibility and return to play status for student athletes, requiring independent judgment and collaboration with various stakeholders.
  • Maintains confidentiality and compliance with regulatory requirements in patient interactions.
  • Participates in professional development and maintains necessary certifications.

Requirements

  • New Jersey license as a Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathy.
  • Primary specialty in Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Pediatrics.
  • 3+ years of experience as a physician, including experience as a Team Physician at the college/university level.
  • Primary care board certification and sports medicine sub-specialty certification (CAQ).
  • Current CPR and AED certifications.
  • Knowledgeable in quality improvement methodologies or willing to attend training.

Nice-to-haves

  • 2 years or more of relevant experience in Athletic Medicine.
  • Proficiency in musculoskeletal ultrasound.
  • ACLS or ATLS certification.
  • Familiarity with total work systems and data analysis.
  • Training in health equity and diversity topics.
