About the position
The Diesel Technician - Class B plays a crucial role in maintaining the safety and operational efficiency of the company's fleet diesel equipment. This position involves repairing, maintaining, and overhauling medium to heavy-duty trucks and trailers, ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations. The role offers a structured work schedule with a focus on preventative maintenance and provides opportunities for growth within the organization.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance on medium to heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and refrigeration units under minimal supervision.
- Complete minor repairs and standard component inspections/repairs of fleet diesel equipment.
- Identify root causes of basic failures and perform necessary repairs.
- Ensure equipment has required licensing and registration before being deemed roadworthy.
- Document work orders for repairs and preventative maintenance through the online Enterprise Asset Management system.
- Install, replace, and repair onboard computers.
- Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, and other critical parts to ensure proper operating condition.
- Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, battery checks, and lubrication of equipment using hand and power tools.
- Train and provide guidance to other mechanics.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED or State Approved Equivalent
- 3 - 5 years of experience in medium to heavy-duty vehicle repair including preventative maintenance, tire & wheel, air brakes, computerized diagnostics, and electrical troubleshooting.
