About the position

The Fire Technician at Total Safety is responsible for the inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of various fire safety equipment. This role involves both shop service and fieldwork, ensuring that fire protection systems are operational and compliant with safety standards. The technician will work closely with customers to document services and provide recommendations for corrective actions, contributing to the overall safety and compliance of the facilities served.

Responsibilities

  • Perform shop service and field inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of fire equipment.
  • Complete all documentation associated with inspection and repair in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Conduct detailed visual inspections and system functional tests of various systems and equipment.
  • Conduct pre-job, job update, and post-job completion briefs.
  • Assist in stocking shelves with clean, tested, and ready-to-use equipment.
  • Maintain work area and other areas in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Perform basic maintenance and care of assigned vehicle and/or trailer.
  • Rig-up and use a wide range of safety equipment as needed.
  • Assist others as needed.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license from state of residence and valid proof of vehicle insurance.
  • Safe driving record and insurable for company vehicle insurance.
  • Ability to pass internal forklift certification as required.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites for short and long-term projects.
  • Ability to obtain TWIC card and pass required safety testing.
  • Have or obtain applicable State Fire Licenses or pass NICET Level II testing within 12 months of hire.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate electronic safety equipment and understand fire systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose assigned equipment problems.
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards pertaining to assigned responsibilities, including State, OSHA, and NFPA regulations.
  • Proficiency in the care and use of site-specific Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to work in a team environment and assume additional responsibilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Forklift experience is considered a plus.
  • Associate degree, technical or military training strongly preferred.
