About the position

The Tech Lead Cloud & DevOps Engineering position at Abbott is a pivotal role that leads the cloud operations, developer experience, and data infrastructure practice at Lingo, a new biosensing technology initiative. This position is based in Alameda, CA, and is responsible for delivering a comprehensive set of operational services that ensure the health and availability of applications and systems. The Tech Lead will oversee monitoring systems, incident resolution, backups, and disaster recovery processes, ensuring that the cloud infrastructure is robust and efficient. This role also involves participating in product releases, providing support to development teams as they progress through various environments, and collaborating with engineering teams to implement operational improvements. In this role, the Tech Lead will work closely with R&D Software Engineering to implement observability and monitoring capabilities for web and mobile applications. They will also partner with cybersecurity teams to ensure the continuous hardening of cloud infrastructure and services. The Tech Lead will define best practices for deploying data infrastructure in Azure Cloud and will be responsible for compliance with corporate and divisional policies. Building and nurturing relationships with key suppliers of cloud technologies is essential to keep abreast of emerging technologies and ensure solution stability and optimal pricing. The position requires proactive assessment of standards and methodologies, driving change for continuous improvement. The Tech Lead will create and manage a 24x7 monitoring and support strategy for cloud and DevOps infrastructure, overseeing all aspects of the cloud environment, including provisioning, scaling, monitoring, and security. Additionally, they will develop and document technical designs for the integration and implementation of new cloud applications and systems, ensuring that infrastructure qualification plans and reports are in place.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the cloud operations, developer experience, and data infrastructure practice at Lingo.
  • Deliver operational services including monitoring systems, application health, and availability.
  • Participate in product releases and support development teams during the release process.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on operational improvements to cloud infrastructure.
  • Develop best practices for using data services in the cloud, including SQL, NoSQL, Data Lakes, and Blob Storage.
  • Implement observability, end-to-end monitoring, alerting, and troubleshooting capabilities for web and mobile applications.
  • Work with cybersecurity to ensure continuous hardening of cloud infrastructure and services.
  • Define best practices and guardrails for deploying data infrastructure in Azure Cloud.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable corporate and divisional policies and procedures.
  • Nurture relationships with key suppliers of cloud technologies to stay updated on emerging technologies.
  • Monitor service levels, customer satisfaction, and project results; serve as a point of escalation for issues.
  • Assess the effectiveness of standards, methodologies, and processes for continuous improvement.
  • Create and manage a 24x7 monitoring and support strategy for cloud and DevOps infrastructure.
  • Oversee all aspects of the cloud environment, including provisioning, scaling, monitoring, and security.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Science discipline.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in cloud operations and DevOps.
  • Experience setting up robust observability and monitoring infrastructure.
  • Experience establishing teams for 24x7 coverage.
  • Experience managing infrastructure compliant with PCI, PHI, and other related privacy and governance standards.
  • Experience managing strict SLAs, operational KPIs, and cost optimization of cloud and PaaS infrastructure.
  • Deep insights into the newest cloud technologies and trends.
  • Ability to make architectural decisions at a team and production level.
  • Experience working on projects that span multiple organizations and business units.
  • Extensive knowledge of app development, cybersecurity, cloud development, and deployment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with cloud security and identity management services.
  • University degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or similar technical disciplines.
  • Experience with New Relic, Sentry, and Pager Duty for end-to-end monitoring tools.
