About the position

TikTok is the leading destination for short-form mobile video, with a mission to inspire creativity and bring joy. The Creation Platform team at TikTok is responsible for managing the vast amount of videos and photos uploaded by over 1 billion users. This team orchestrates processes and operations around media, including transcoding and moderation, while also supporting new features like TikTok Now, Photo Mode, long video, and AIGC. The goal is to continuously evolve TikTok's infrastructure and app to enhance user experience and joy. As a Tech Lead Manager, you will handle and guide system designs within the broader scope of the team, writing product or system development code to address ambiguous problems. You will directly support cross-functional teams, including Product Management, and oversee the execution process of your team by reviewing code developed by other engineers. Providing feedback to ensure best practices are applied is crucial, as is setting and communicating team priorities that align with the organization's goals. In this role, you will set clear expectations with team members based on their roles and levels, meeting regularly to discuss performance and development. You will also be responsible for developing a mid-term technical vision and roadmap for your team(s), evolving it to meet future requirements and infrastructure needs. This position requires a strong technical background, leadership experience, and excellent communication skills to foster collaboration within the team and across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Handle and guide systems designs within the scope of the broader area, writing product or system development code to solve ambiguous problems.
  • Review code developed by other engineers and oversee the execution process of the team, providing feedback to ensure best practices are applied.
  • Set and communicate team priorities that support the broader organization's goals, aligning strategy, processes, and decision-making across teams.
  • Set clear expectations with individuals based on their level and role, aligned to the broader organization's goals, and meet regularly to discuss performance and development.
  • Develop the mid-term technical vision and roadmap within the scope of your team(s), evolving it to meet anticipated future requirements and infrastructure needs.

Requirements

  • BS/MS Degree in Computer Science or related major, with 5+ years working experience.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role; overseeing strategic projects, with 1.5+ years of experience in people management.
  • Experienced in building backend services for large-scale consumer-facing applications or have a good understanding of business.
  • Deep understanding of computer architectures, data structures, and algorithms.
  • Good team communication and collaboration skills.
  • Responsible, self-motivated, and have a growth mindset.
