About the position

Exelon is seeking electro-mechanical maintenance technicians to perform preventative, corrective, and predictive maintenance on high voltage transformers, circuit breakers, and associated substation equipment. The role requires individuals to advance to the journeyman level and work independently in a performance team atmosphere. Technicians will be responsible for ensuring the safe operation of substation equipment and responding to emergencies, including storm duty, while adhering to safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Follow all safety rules and procedures along with verbal and written directions from supervision.
• Perform preventative, corrective, and predictive maintenance tasks on transmission-class and distribution-class electrical substation equipment, including troubleshooting of AC/DC control systems and electro-mechanical systems.
• Install and construct substation transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, bus work and associated control wiring.
• Safely operate transmission-class and distribution-class substation equipment such as transformers, disconnect switches, circuit breakers, switchgear breakers and associated auxiliary equipment.
• Plan, prepare and coordinate work using established processes and a variety of computer software.
• Respond to call/outs/emergencies/storm duty on a 24 x 7 basis and perform shift work and overtime as needed.
• Seek out and adopt new innovative technologies.

Requirements

• High School graduate or GED
• Hold a valid driver's license
• Ability to learn to read & interpret wiring and electrical schematics and diagrams
• Ability to learn to read and interpret mechanical drawings & equipment instruction books
• Ability to work at heights to sixty feet or more from ladders, aerial man lifts, bucket trucks, scaffolding or on top of transformers; and work in severe weather conditions
• Ability to gain unescorted access at nuclear plants
• Maintain Fitness For Duty standards per company guidelines
• Ability to obtain a Transportation Workers Identity Card (TWIC)
• Ability to obtain a CDL (class B) license and a Pennsylvania drivers' medical card

Nice-to-haves

• Ability to use MS Windows based computer programs
• Familiarity with Transformer and Circuit Breaker test equipment such as Power Factor Testers, Breaker Timers, Gauge Calibration Testers, Transformer Winding Testers, etc.
