About the position

The Tech Maintenance 2 C - 3 C position at Exelon involves working as an electro-mechanical maintenance technician responsible for performing preventative, corrective, and predictive maintenance on high voltage transformers, circuit breakers, and associated substation equipment. The role requires individuals to advance to the journeyman level and work independently in a performance team atmosphere, ensuring safety and efficiency in energy delivery operations.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all safety rules and procedures along with verbal and written directions from supervision.
  • Perform preventative, corrective, and predictive maintenance tasks on transmission-class and distribution-class electrical substation equipment, including troubleshooting of AC/DC control systems and electro-mechanical systems.
  • Install and construct substation transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, bus work and associated control wiring.
  • Safely operate transmission-class and distribution-class substation equipment such as transformers, disconnect switches, circuit breakers, switchgear breakers and associated auxiliary equipment.
  • Plan, prepare and coordinate work using established processes and a variety of computer software.
  • Respond to call/outs/emergencies/storm duty on a 24 x 7 basis and perform shift work and overtime as needed.
  • Seek out and adopt new innovative technologies.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or GED for 3rd Class applicants.
  • Graduate of a Trade School, Technical School, or Military Program with documented Electro-Mechanical Systems Training OR 2 years minimum experience as a certified Journeyman Electrician (Apprenticeship program completed) OR graduate of an accredited 2 year Electrical/Mechanical Engineering Program for 2nd Class applicants.
  • Hold a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to learn to read & interpret wiring and electrical schematics and diagrams.
  • Ability to learn to read and interpret mechanical drawings & equipment instruction books.
  • Ability to work at heights to sixty feet or more from ladders, aerial man lifts, bucket trucks, scaffolding or on top of transformers; and work in severe weather conditions.
  • Ability to gain unescorted access at nuclear plants.
  • Maintain Fitness For Duty standards per company guidelines.
  • Ability to obtain a Transportation Workers Identity Card (TWIC).
  • Ability to obtain a CDL (class B) license and a Pennsylvania drivers' medical card.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with Transformer and Circuit Breaker test equipment such as Power Factor Testers, Breaker Timers, Gauge Calibration Testers, Transformer Winding Testers, etc.
  • Ability to use MS Windows based computer programs.
