About the position
Texoma Medical Center, a 414-bed acute care facility has been providing quality health care to the residents of North Texas and Southern Oklahoma since 1965. Our main campus is located in Denison, Texas, approximately one hour north of the Dallas/Fort Worth area and just south of the Texas/Oklahoma border. Responsibilities
- Responsible for knowledge of anatomy and physiology of surgical sites.
- Pass instruments on all procedures or act as an assistant and hold retractors as needed.
- Practice aseptic technique.
- Assist in preparation of room prior to surgery and cleaning room after surgery.
- Assist staff and surgeons to ensure instruments, supplies, and equipment are available when needed for surgical procedures.
- Work in instrument room as needed.
- Take assigned call as required.
- Exhibit knowledge of age specific needs of patients of all psychosocial, and/or cultural backgrounds.
- Participate with cost containment issues in the Operating Room.
Requirements
- Completion of an accredited Surgical Technician program or documented proof of previous employment as a surgical technologist before September 1, 2009.
- Current CST certification or be a LVN or provide proof of employment as a practicing surgical technologist in a health care facility before September 1, 2009.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) Healthcare Provider course must be completed during new hire orientation prior to working in a clinical setting.
- Ability to read and comprehend information related to perioperative operations.
- Minimum computer literacy in keyboarding and Microsoft Windows.
- Effective communication skills and ability to identify and address the special needs of patients of all age groups.
