About the position

St. Joseph's Healthcare System is seeking a dedicated Pharmacy Technician to join our esteemed healthcare team. This position is integral to the efficient operation of our pharmacy department, where the technician will be responsible for performing a variety of technical tasks related to the storage, distribution, packaging, and labeling of medications. The Pharmacy Technician will work closely with pharmacists to ensure that medications are prepared and distributed accurately and efficiently, maintaining the highest standards of patient care and safety. In this role, the Pharmacy Technician will assist pharmacists in preparing medications, which includes measuring, mixing, and packaging pharmaceuticals. The technician will also be responsible for maintaining the drug inventory, ensuring that all medications are stored properly and that stock levels are monitored and replenished as needed. Additionally, the technician will maintain patient records and complete all required documentation related to medication dispensing and inventory management. This position requires a strong attention to detail and the ability to work under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, adhering to all regulatory and safety guidelines. The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of drug names, dosages, and dosage forms, as well as the procedures for preparing various dosage forms. The ability to perform tasks accurately and efficiently within specified time frames is essential, as is the capacity to adapt to frequent changes in directives, interruptions, and workload. This role is vital to the overall functioning of the pharmacy and contributes significantly to the quality of care provided to our patients.

Responsibilities

  • Perform technical tasks involved with the storage, distribution, packaging, and labeling of drugs.

  • Work under the direct supervision of the pharmacist.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required; Associate's degree preferred.
  • Hospital pharmacy experience is preferred.
  • Certification by an organization recognized by the New Jersey Board of Pharmacy is required (new hires have one year from date of hire to become certified).
  • Registration by the Board of Pharmacy as a Registered Pharmacy Technician is required.
  • Ability to perform work accurately with attention to detail within specified time periods.
  • Ability to handle and adapt to frequent directives, interruptions, and changes in workload and work schedule.
