About the position

Reuters News is seeking an experienced and ambitious Tech Policy/Antitrust Correspondent (Level 1 Journalist) to join our team in Washington. This role is pivotal in breaking news on the ongoing antitrust challenges facing Big Tech, uncovering regulatory efforts surrounding artificial intelligence (AI), and reporting on various consumer protection issues that could significantly impact corporate profits. The successful candidate will focus on critical stories, such as Washington's initiatives to ensure fair deployment of AI, the Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) antitrust lawsuit against Amazon, and exclusive insights into the next industries that regulators are targeting. These stories are not only crucial for our readers but also highly sought after by Reuters LSEG clients and featured prominently on Reuters.com, especially when we lead with breaking news. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to cultivate sources within the FTC, the Antitrust Division of the Justice Department, the antitrust legal community in Washington, and corporate lobbyists whose companies face significant regulatory scrutiny. This position also necessitates legal experience in covering trials and may involve occasional work on Capitol Hill to report on hearings. The emphasis will be on the interactions between companies and lawmakers, as well as how corporate influence shapes legislative outcomes. The right candidate will collaborate effectively with a team of reporters in Washington who are dedicated to corporate accountability, regulation, and enforcement.
