About the position
The Technical Service Engineer I position at NOV is designed for individuals with 0-1 year of experience in the oilfield equipment application or mechanical background. This role is crucial in providing quality technical support to various departments including Engineering, Brandt Sales, Leasing, and Industrial groups. The engineer will assist with operations at the Conroe Test Facility and engage in specific service activities and product applications as directed by the Technical Services Manager. In this role, the engineer will be responsible for installing, plumbing, and conducting equipment tests in the field. They will record data as directed in written test procedures for each test and conduct or oversee field tests as required by Engineering or clients, providing written test reports. Additionally, the engineer will have secondary responsibilities for the condition of test facility equipment, tools, and servicing. They will assist Engineering, Sales, Leasing, and Industrial teams with field rig visits to determine the proper equipment placement for optimal process applications. Travel is a significant aspect of this position, as the engineer will need to travel to rig or installation sites for the commissioning of new equipment, oversee initial operations, and train rig crews, mechanics, and maintenance personnel in the proper operation and care of the equipment. The engineer will also assist in test and experimental setups, either at the Conroe Test Facility or in field applications, as instructed by the Technical Services Manager. Maintenance and troubleshooting for all NOV Solids Control Equipment, including shakers, degassers, desanders/desilters, agitators, centrifuges, and pumps, will also be part of their responsibilities. Safety is paramount in this role, and the engineer must follow all safety rules and regulations as provided by NOV Brandt and customer company representatives, including the use of personal protective devices as required by company or client policy. Other related duties may be assigned by Senior Technical Service Technicians and the Technical Services Manager as necessary.
Responsibilities
- Provide quality technical support to Engineering, Brandt Sales, Leasing, and Industrial groups.
- Assist with Conroe Test Facility operations.
- Install, plumb, and conduct equipment tests in the field.
- Record data as directed in written test procedures for each test.
- Conduct or oversee field tests as required by Engineering or clients; provide written test reports.
- Maintain condition of test facility equipment, tools, and servicing.
- Assist with field rig visits to determine proper equipment placement for best process applications.
- Travel to rig or installation site for commissioning of new equipment and oversee initial operation.
- Train rig crews, mechanics, and maintenance personnel in proper operation and care of equipment.
- Assist in test and experimental setups at Conroe Test Facility or in field applications as instructed.
- Perform maintenance and troubleshooting for all NOV Solids Control Equipment.
Requirements
- 0 to 5 years' experience in oilfield equipment application or mechanical background.
- Familiarity in use of drilling equipment and required procedures.
- Experience with mechanical / electrical tools and test equipment.
- Experienced in testing procedures in controlled laboratory environment.
- Basic computer skills with interest in gaining additional knowledge.
- Good communication skills; must be able to speak, read and write English correctly.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Experience with personal computers, including Microsoft Office Pro and Symix.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Minimum of 45 WPM typing speed required.
- Ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
