About the position

As a Technical Writer at Sierra Space, you will be instrumental in developing and updating process plans and manufacturing specifications for multi-panel deployable Solar Array programs. This role involves collaborating with the manufacturing engineering team to enhance and standardize documentation, which is essential for improving efficiency in production processes. Your contributions will directly impact the production center and support the innovative technologies that Sierra Space is pioneering in the commercial space industry.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with the Manufacturing Engineering and Operations teams to gather process information and understand technical requirements.
  • Develop detailed process planning documentation, including work instructions, technical specifications, and training documentation.
  • Develop and own the template library to standardize process planning across the team.
  • Review process plans and specifications across the team and enforce adherence to template guidelines to ensure consistent, high-quality documentation.
  • Provide hands-on support to the Manufacturing Engineering and Operations teams to gather insights and improvements for documentation.
  • Assist with new program introduction by identifying the need for new specifications, determining the specification library structure, and developing documentation alongside process owners.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably within the aerospace or solar power industry.
  • Proven expertise in creating technical documentation, including process planning and specifications.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and an ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in technical writing tools and software.
  • Hands-on experience with manufacturing processes and familiarity with industry standards and protocols.
  • Passion for advancing the commercial space industry and human spaceflight.
  • Strong work ethic and drive to succeed.
  • Willingness to work occasional long hours and weekends.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, autonomously driven, and demanding start-up atmosphere.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience producing documentation for J-STD-001 Class 2, IPC-A-610 Class 2, or equivalent hardware.
