About the position

As a Technical Accounting Manager within the CooperCompanies Finance department, you will play a crucial role in overseeing technical accounting matters and ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP and SEC regulations. This position involves researching and communicating technical accounting issues, navigating new business initiatives, and understanding the accounting implications of various transactions. You will collaborate with cross-functional business partners, including US and international accounting teams, to interpret complex contracts and agreements, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed of the accounting and business implications of transactions. Your expertise will be essential in identifying key accounting issues and recommending appropriate accounting and disclosure requirements for complex, non-routine transactions. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing and reviewing technical accounting memorandums for significant transactions, updating and implementing accounting policies and procedures in response to changes within the company and industry standards, and monitoring new accounting pronouncements. You will assist in the preparation of periodic SEC filings, including Forms 10-Q, 10-K, and 8-K, and work on initiatives to improve organizational processes and systems. Additionally, you will ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements and support overall compliance efforts. The position requires strong communication skills, as you will need to present complex accounting information clearly to various levels of the organization. You will also need to manage multiple projects with competing priorities and tight deadlines, demonstrating exceptional interpersonal and project management skills. This role may involve travel to company operations within North America and occasionally around the world, but travel is not expected to exceed 15%.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee technical accounting matters, including research and documentation for complex contracts and transactions.
  • Interpret U.S. GAAP accounting standards and SEC guidance for new and unusual transactions.
  • Prepare and review technical accounting memorandums for significant transactions.
  • Update and implement accounting policies and procedures in response to changes in regulations and best practices.
  • Monitor and interpret new accounting pronouncements related to revenue recognition and other areas.
  • Assist in the preparation of SEC filings, including Forms 10-Q, 10-K, and 8-K.
  • Collaborate with internal partners on initiatives to improve processes and systems.
  • Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements for areas of responsibility.
  • Assist with ad hoc projects and prepare responses to information requests.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8+ years of progressive responsibilities in accounting, with a mix of Big-4 and public company experience.
  • 1-3 years of management experience required.
  • Experience in communicating clear accounting positions and operational solutions through ambiguity.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in researching and documenting new accounting guidance and treatment of issues.
  • Comprehensive understanding of US GAAP and SEC reporting principles.
  • Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley and internal control frameworks.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including technical report writing and presentation abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and project management skills, with the ability to collaborate across functional areas.
  • Highly proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Proactive problem solver with the ability to manage multiple projects and tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
