About the position

As part of Corporate Accounting, this position will serve as an expert and project lead on various U.S. GAAP and SEC technical accounting issues by timely researching complex transactions and new accounting guidance independently, assessing implications, documenting conclusions, communicating with the impacted businesses and corporate departments, training, and managing an implementation plan. This position is expected to routinely provide technical accounting guidance in various areas such as: contracts, revenue recognition, leases, derivatives, VIE assessments, impairment analysis, acquisitions, divestitures, and overall application of new and existing accounting standards. This position specifically works largely with leases; therefore, experience and deep understanding in this area is preferred. Further, this position is expected to develop other Technical Accounting and larger Corporate Accounting team members who assist with the completion of the technical accounting reviews. The candidate must rely upon experience and judgment to plan and accomplish tasks/projects in a timely manner including the ability to work under tight deadlines and working proactively with external auditors to drive timely closure of technical accounting matters. Building and maintaining effective working relationships with various levels in the organization and being a champion of Tyson's mission core values and team behaviors as well as the RIGHT behaviors are critical to this role.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an expert and project lead on U.S. GAAP and SEC technical accounting issues.
  • Research complex transactions and new accounting guidance independently.
  • Assess implications and document conclusions.
  • Communicate with impacted businesses and corporate departments.
  • Train and manage an implementation plan for technical accounting guidance.
  • Provide technical accounting guidance in areas such as contracts, revenue recognition, leases, derivatives, VIE assessments, impairment analysis, acquisitions, and divestitures.
  • Develop Technical Accounting and Corporate Accounting team members.
  • Work proactively with external auditors to drive timely closure of technical accounting matters.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships across various levels in the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.
  • 7 plus years of related experience in Technical Accounting and writing accounting memos.
  • Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to perform technical research using various research tools; working knowledge of SAP and Power BI preferred.
  • Excellent written presentation and verbal communication skills.
  • Certified Public Accountant preferred.
  • Excellent technical accounting knowledge and ability to research complex GAAP accounting standards.
  • Ability to simplify complex topics in verbal and written communications.
  • Strong team-oriented skills and high level of self-motivation.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people across various levels, functions, and locations.
  • Track record for exceeding multiple goals on various short-term projects simultaneously.
