About the position

The Technical Assistant in Radiology Support Services plays a crucial role in providing clerical and technical support within the radiology department. This position involves assisting technologists with patient transport, ensuring safety and accuracy in patient handling, and delivering exceptional customer service to patients and staff. The role requires flexibility to work in various areas of the department and adherence to established protocols and values of Antelope Valley Medical Center (AVH).

Responsibilities

  • Assist technologist with moving patients on and off the exam table while adhering to bodily implant restrictions.
  • Transport patients between hospital areas and all radiology modalities.
  • Support and assist technologist with daily patient workflow.
  • Review and verify patient orders, history, and lab work with technologist.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions to supervisor or manager.
  • Prepare exam rooms for upcoming exams and clean/disinfect as needed.
  • Complete exams in RIS and check PACS to ensure exams are recorded in the system.
  • Assist with stockroom responsibilities to maintain adequate supply inventories.
  • Assist in obtaining patient signatures on consent forms and authorization for release of records.
  • Answer telephone calls in compliance with hospital etiquette and document messages accurately.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Previous experience assisting technologists in a clinical environment preferred.
  • Previous patient transport experience in a healthcare environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology preferred.
  • Proficient in the operation of computers, scanners, copiers, and fax machines preferred.
