About the position

Resource 1 is seeking a technical Business Analyst/Project Manager for a remote contract-for-hire position. This role presents a fantastic opportunity for a Business Analyst who is passionate about data and eager to delve deeper into project management. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in enterprise data warehouses, business intelligence, reporting, and dashboards. The Business Analyst should have robust SQL skills and at least one year of experience in project management or related responsibilities. This position is pivotal in bridging project requirements with source system data, requiring enough technical knowledge to comprehend the complexities of development and analyze data to assess the feasibility of business requirements. The successful applicant will be comfortable engaging with various levels of business users, driving them towards defining reporting solutions and requirements that are consistent, well thought out, and provide substantial business value. This position carries significant responsibility in steering business-critical reporting projects within a highly complex data environment. The Business Analyst will work closely with internal customers to understand their business needs, document detailed business requirements, and define the business value of these requirements. They will analyze existing dashboards and data marts to understand how new data requirements will integrate into existing structures, perform data analysis and validation using SQL queries, and act as the first line of defense when issues arise with dashboards or reports. Additionally, the Business Analyst will develop precise documentation of prioritized functional requirements that can be directly converted into use cases, test plans, and acceptance criteria. They will also create and present project plans and status updates to IT teams, customers, and other stakeholders, ensuring that all parties are informed and aligned throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Work with customers (mostly internal) to understand business needs, document detailed business requirements and define business value.
  • Analyze and understand the business data related to existing dashboards and data marts and understand how the data required for new requirements will fit into existing structures.
  • Perform data analysis and validation using SQL queries (SELECT statements, WHERE clauses, joins, etc.).
  • Act as the first line of defense when problems arise with dashboards/reports.
  • Develop precise documentation of prioritized functional requirements that can directly be converted to use cases, test plans and acceptance criteria.
  • Create and present project plans and project status updates to IT teams, customers and other stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience as a technical Business Analyst, including analyzing/documenting requirements, communicating with stakeholders, facilitating UAT, etc.
  • 5+ years of experience working on data-related projects (e.g., business intelligence, data warehousing, data visualizations/reporting, etc.).
  • Experience analyzing complex data using SQL and/or custom reports to validate requirements feasibility and assist in troubleshooting data issues.
  • 1+ years of experience performing project management-related responsibilities, such as creating project plans, ensuring projects are completed on time/within budget, running meetings, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to communicate with vice presidents, developers, data architects, infrastructure team members and peers.
  • Must be able to work independently and proactively find solutions to problems with little guidance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Business Objects, SAP Analytical Cloud, Oracle, and Erwin.
  • Knowledge of Smartsheets is a plus.
