About the position

The Technical Career Coach for the Tech Talent Pipeline Residency program at CUNY New York College of Technology is responsible for inspiring and motivating first-generation computer science students. This role focuses on providing support to TTP Residents and alumni, helping them transition from education to employment in the tech industry. The coach will deliver career advisement, track student progress, and collaborate with program managers to enhance student engagement and professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 career advisement to help students identify career goals and necessary milestones.
  • Strategize ways to overcome barriers to students' persistence and career success.
  • Prepare students to apply, interview, and secure tech internships and/or full-time positions.
  • Share weekly updates on student progress with the SBS Tech Training Implementation.
  • Collect job outcomes data and report job outcomes in a timely manner.
  • Assess and track students' professional and technical skills.
  • Work closely with the TTP Residency Program Manager to support program needs.
  • Develop and deliver professional and soft skills training.
  • Collect and analyze data to propose improvements for technical training and career services.
  • Drive all student engagement activities across cohorts, including communications and updates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Human Resources, or a relevant field.
  • Proven track record of offering career guidance and connecting candidates to employment.
  • Ability to recognize skills gaps and develop plans for personal and career growth.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, leadership, and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in a college institution in a student-facing role.
  • Experience with Brightspace, HandShake, HackerRank, LinkedIn, GitHub, Slack, Discord, Microsoft Forms, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Working knowledge of at least one coding language, preferably JavaScript.
