About the position

In this role, you will be responsible for a variety of technical writing duties, collaborating closely with the Technical Communications Manager to develop essential documents for various product teams at Trek. Your primary focus will be on managing documentation projects, ensuring that you work effectively with our Product teams, including Trek Road and City/Hybrid, as well as Marketing, Customer Care, Service, and Project Management teams. The goal is to create best-in-class documentation that spans from concept to delivery, ensuring clarity and usability for our customers. As a Technical Writer/Illustrator, you will design, create, and revise various types of engineering and technical documents, such as manuals, bulletins, and instructions. You will also be responsible for creating illustrations based on assembly drawings, which will enhance the clarity of the documentation. Managing your TechComm projects will be a key part of your role, and you will need to be proactive in editing and proofing technical documents to maintain high standards of quality. Communication is vital in this position; you will be expected to speak up with new ideas or methods for document creation and management. Additionally, you will collaborate with the Web Production team to maintain Trek's website library of documents, ensuring that our audience receives information in an informed, knowledgeable, and conversational tone. You will also work closely with our Legal/Compliance Team to ensure that all documents meet Trek's legal requirements, maintaining confidentiality and adhering to standard Trek practices.

Responsibilities

  • Manage documentation projects for various product teams.
  • Design, create, and revise engineering and technical documents such as manuals and instructions.
  • Create illustrations from assembly drawings to enhance documentation clarity.
  • Edit and proof technical documents proactively to ensure quality.
  • Collaborate with the Web Production team to maintain Trek's website library of documents.
  • Communicate effectively with the audience in an informed and conversational tone.
  • Work with the Legal/Compliance Team to ensure documents meet legal requirements.

Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering or in English with Technical Communications emphasis.
  • Proficient in Adobe suite of apps: InDesign, Illustrator, PhotoShop.
  • Early adopter of leading-edge communication and web technology.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others.
  • A working awareness of liability and copyright issues.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to standard Trek practices.
