About the position

In-Situ® Inc. is seeking a Technical Content Developer (Technical Writer II) to join our User Experience (UX) team in Fort Collins, CO. This role is pivotal in enhancing the customer experience with our innovative environmental monitoring equipment. The Technical Content Developer will be responsible for creating and updating product instruction manuals, quick-start guides, and other technical documentation for our water monitoring instruments and systems. The ideal candidate will possess a strong customer-centric attitude, ensuring that all documentation is designed with the user's needs, situations, and goals in mind. This position requires a blend of technical writing skills and the ability to communicate complex scientific information in a clear and accessible manner. As part of the UX team, the Technical Content Developer will collaborate with various internal stakeholders, including mechanical and electrical engineers, sales teams, product managers, chemists, and software engineers, to document official user procedures. The role involves researching and understanding technical information and translating it for less technical users, ensuring that the documentation meets the high standards of quality that In-Situ is known for. The successful candidate will also partner with UX designers to create meaningful help content within software user interfaces, ensuring that users have access to the right information at the right time. Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering the best possible user experience are essential for this role. The Technical Content Developer will be expected to engage with our customer base to understand their needs and preferences, which will inform the delivery methods and formats of the documentation produced. Responsibilities

  • Create and update instruction manuals and other user-facing documents, technical guides, and help content using clear, understandable, and easy to follow instructions.
  • Work with internal stakeholders (mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, sales, product managers, chemists, and software engineers) to document official user procedures.
  • Coordinate with product managers and the larger UX team to meet business goals, product requirements, and user needs.
  • Research and understand technical information and translate it for less technical users.
  • Partner with UX designers to craft meaningful help content in software UIs.
  • Understand technical specifications and useful scientific reference material.
  • Work with other members of the UX team to ensure the right technical and help content is available when and where our users need it, and in a way that meets their needs.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years in a technical communications role or similar position
  • BS/BA in either a technical field, communication field, or equivalent experience
  • Working familiarity with at least one standard documentation software (InDesign preferred)
  • Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a team environment where flexibility, collaboration, and adaptability are important
  • A portfolio which demonstrates the ability to understand and translate complex technical and scientific systems and processes and communicate them to non-technical people in a simple and clear manner
  • Graphic design skills to create clean page layouts and work within a design system.
