About the position

The Technical Content Writer position is a contract role based in East Pittsburgh, PA, focusing on the development of various operational and maintenance manuals for the Rail Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) signaling system. The writer will work under general supervision and will be responsible for analyzing input received from customers, requesting further input requirements as necessary, and developing comprehensive user guides, maintenance manuals, and training manuals specifically tailored for the CBTC system. This role requires a strong collaboration with engineers and other technical personnel to ensure clarity and accuracy in the documentation produced. The writer will prepare written text and coordinate the layout and organization of manuals and other documents according to established outlines and specifications. This involves researching available technical data, including drawings, design reports, equipment specifications, and test specifications to ensure that the manuals are informative and meet the needs of the users and maintainers of the CBTC signaling system. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in technical writing, particularly in the rail signaling domain, and must possess a certificate to conduct training as an instructor on the CBTC system in the USA. Typically, this position requires a Bachelor's degree and more than five years of experience in technical writing and rail signaling systems. The role is expected to last for a duration of 12 months, with an 8-hour shift schedule, and is an onsite position in East Pittsburgh, PA.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze input received from customers and request further input requirements as necessary.
  • Develop user guides, maintenance manuals, and training manuals for the Rail CBTC system.
  • Prepare written text and coordinate layout and organization of manuals according to prepared outlines and specifications.
  • Research available technical data including drawings, design reports, equipment, and test specifications.
  • Collaborate with engineers and other technical personnel to clarify document contents.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • More than five years of experience in Technical Writing and Rail Signaling systems.
  • Proficiency in Adobe FrameMaker and Microsoft Word.
  • Experience in creating illustrations and using Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Certification to conduct training as an instructor on the CBTC system in the USA.

Nice-to-haves

  • 1 year of experience with Microsoft PowerPoint (preferred).
