About the position

The Technical Coordinator for Loan Operations at Northern Trust plays a crucial role in organizing and overseeing the loan operation transactions of the team. This position involves assigning tasks, setting short-term priorities, and monitoring all activities to ensure timely and accurate completion of work, particularly for junior-level employees. The successful candidate will provide on-the-job technical training and coaching for analysts, offering day-to-day support in processing various loan operation transactions. These transactions encompass Syndicated Commercial Loan Servicing, FX Transaction Processing, Fee Billing and Processing, as well as servicing a portfolio of Direct Commercial clients. In this role, the Technical Coordinator may manage daily operational activities and supervise the day-to-day work of junior-level employees, although it is not a formal management position. The coordinator will perform Quality Control and Audits to ensure adherence to key controls and regulations, focusing on the resolution of complex transactions by interpreting policies, guidelines, and processes. Additionally, the coordinator will identify and document new procedures and controls, providing input for process changes that could enhance operational efficiency. The activities carried out in this role have significant financial, client, and internal business impacts, and the coordinator may interact directly with committees and/or Senior Management. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in their area of expertise, along with a broader knowledge of other related areas. They will be expected to deliver work products that require minimal revision and will be capable of facilitating discussions and reaching decisions effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Organize loan operation transactions and assign tasks to junior level employees.
  • Set short-term priorities and monitor activities to ensure timely and accurate completion of work.
  • Provide on-the-job technical training and coaching for analysts.
  • Support analysts in processing loan operation transactions including Syndicated Commercial Loan Servicing, FX Transaction Processing, and Fee Billing.
  • Perform Quality Control and Audits to ensure adherence to key controls and regulations.
  • Resolve complex transactions by interpreting policies, guidelines, and processes.
  • Identify and document new procedures and controls to improve operational efficiency.
  • Provide input for process changes to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Interact with committees and/or Senior Management as needed.

Requirements

  • A College or University degree and/or relevant work experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the banking industry is preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Knowledge of risk management and mitigation practices is preferred.
