About the position

The Senior Technical Data Architect role at Booz Allen is focused on leading the design and implementation of data architecture solutions for the internal IT Operations Data Lake. This position requires a blend of technical expertise and creative problem-solving to manage and optimize data assets, ensuring efficient operations and scalability for large datasets. The architect will work closely with data engineers and stakeholders to develop data governance, access controls, and a logical data model that meets operational needs while balancing performance, security, and usability.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design of data architecture solutions for a petabyte-sized Databricks Lakehouse.
  • Design, document, and oversee delivery of data governance and access controls for existing data.
  • Collaborate with the requirements team to integrate stakeholder requests into a scalable logical data model.
  • Optimize data structures to avoid design pitfalls and enhance performance.
  • Implement the semantic modeling layer of the data lake to support reporting and advanced use cases.
  • Work hands-on in Databricks with data engineers and stakeholders to organize data as the Lakehouse grows.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience designing and implementing data models.
  • 3+ years of experience using Python in a data engineering or analysis context.
  • 3+ years of experience using SQL in an analysis context.
  • 3+ years of experience working with data consumers and producers to design and define data models.
  • 2+ years of experience using the Databricks Lakehouse platform.
  • Knowledge of performance considerations when interacting with large datasets.
  • Knowledge of data modeling patterns and best practices.
  • Knowledge of Attribute-based Access Control principles.
  • HS diploma or GED.

Nice-to-haves

  • 2+ years of experience with Apache Spark, including pyspark or scala spark.
  • Knowledge of basic AWS services S3, EC2, and SQS.
  • Knowledge of regulated industry data protection requirements such as GDPR, CCPA, FedRamp, SOX, PCI, or HIPAA.
  • Possession of excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in a Data Modeling or CS field.
  • Databricks Certifications.
  • AWS Cloud Architect Certification.
