About The Position

The United States Space Force (USSF) at Kirtland Air Force Base (New Mexico) is searching for a Technical Director & Chief Engineer for SSC/SZI (NH-0801-04, GS-14/15 Equivalent). This position involves creating and executing the technical roadmap/vision/strategy for the Space Force's only dedicated prototype operations center. The role includes evaluating new missions for their ability to work in concert with other prototype missions to protect and defend the Nation's high value on-orbit assets, assessing their impact on operations center resources, and planning for and assessing completion of prototype testing and mission objectives. The job will develop your knowledge of our 15+ diverse classified missions, grow your professional network with our 10+ mission partners, and give you experience with the mission ground systems. We need your expertise to usher our ops center into the future as we deliver strategically important technological advancements and great power competition conflict deterrence!

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Professional engineering degree at the bachelor's level from an ABET accredited institution is required.
  • Advanced degrees are preferred.
  • Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret clearance.
  • This is a drug testing designated position.
  • Must be available to participate in Government mandated and/or required training to achieve/maintain proficiency.
  • May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft within CONUS or to downrange sites in the performance of Temporary Duty Assignments (TDY).

Nice To Haves

  • A STEM-related master's degree.
  • APDP Engineering Practitioner level certification.
  • Experience working as a satellite operator at a government or contractor satellite operations center.
  • General knowledge of satellites and their respective ground systems, cloud computing, and networking.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing, networking, the Satellite Control Network (SCN), Commercial Augmentation Services (CAS), and ground Telemetry, Tracking & Control (TT&C) systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical vision, support, and advice to the Branch Chief regarding existing satellite missions, potential future missions, and related ground systems.
  • Work with the branch's Flight Directors, mission partners, and contractors to ensure accomplishment of individual and integrated mission objectives and contribute to anomaly resolution as appropriate.
  • Ensure satellite operations equities are appropriately accounted for during the mission partner development process through participation in or leadership of technical reviews.
  • Contribute content to mission partner Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) and Agreement (MOAs) and collaborate with mission partners to ensure mutual MOU and MOA compliance.
  • Work with the organization's Technical Director and other organizational branches to ensure cohesion of the unit's technical roadmap with the organization's broader technical roadmap.
