About the position

GHD is seeking a Technical Director/Senior Project Manager to join our Midwest Contaminated Assessment Remediation (CAR) Group, based in either our Chicago or Detroit offices. This role offers the flexibility of a hybrid work environment, allowing for both office and remote work. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated professional with strong technical skills, comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations, and established relationships with clients, prospects, and regulators. This position is crucial in driving change and innovation in environmental investigations and remediation projects, contributing to a sustainable future for our communities and the world. As a Technical Director/Senior Project Manager, you will be involved in complex problem-solving related to environmental investigations and remediation, ensuring high-quality results and solutions for our clients. You will maintain a high external profile through active participation in industry organizations and continuously expand your network. Internally, you will lead proposal development and contract negotiations to secure targeted projects that leverage GHD's capabilities. Your role will also involve technical project management, ensuring client satisfaction while delivering projects safely, on schedule, and within budget. You will work with a dynamic and high-performing team, mentoring members specializing in the investigation, evaluation, and remediation of contaminated sites. Your expertise in U.S. EPA regulations and state environmental regulations will be essential in preparing regulatory work plans and reports, as well as in developing effective technical and regulatory strategies that meet our clients' compliance needs. This position requires a commitment to behavior-based safety and the ability to oversee and provide constructive feedback on the work of other environmental professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex environmental investigations and remediation projects, ensuring high-quality results and solutions for clients.
  • Maintain a high external profile through membership and attendance in industry organizations, expanding the contact base.
  • Develop and negotiate proposals and contracts to win targeted projects, leveraging GHD's capabilities.
  • Manage technical project direction while ensuring client satisfaction and adherence to project scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Mentor and oversee a high-functioning team specializing in contaminated site investigation and remediation.
  • Prepare regulatory work plans and reports for investigation, remediation, and closure, ensuring compliance with U.S. EPA and state regulations.
  • Develop efficient technical and regulatory strategies that address clients' specific compliance needs and challenges.
  • Provide constructive feedback on work carried out by other environmental professionals.
  • Travel for short durations, including overnight travel, as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's and/or Advanced degree in Applied Science (Engineering, Geology, or Science).
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in contaminated site investigation and remediation.
  • Professional Designation/License (Engineer, Geologist, etc.) is a plus.
  • OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER certification.
  • Proven project and client management skills.
  • Excellent English writing and verbal communication skills to effectively express technical information.
  • Valid driver's license.
