About the position

The Teacher ESE position at Fellsmere Elementary is designed for an educator who specializes in Exceptional Student Education. The primary responsibility of this role is to develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities. The teacher will be expected to possess a deep understanding of child development, particularly the characteristics and challenges faced by students with disabilities. This includes knowledge of the prescribed curriculum and current educational research that informs best practices in the education and training of children with disabilities. In addition to instructional duties, the teacher will utilize various teaching and communication methods to effectively address the diverse needs of students. This role requires strong oral and written communication skills, as well as the ability to plan and implement activities that maximize student engagement and learning outcomes. The teacher will also be responsible for assessing student achievement levels, analyzing test results, and prescribing appropriate actions for improvement. Maintaining a safe and orderly learning environment is crucial, and the teacher must demonstrate the ability to supervise students effectively. Collaboration with peers, administrators, and other stakeholders is essential to ensure a supportive educational experience for students. Furthermore, the teacher should be knowledgeable about the laws, policies, and procedures that govern the education of students with disabilities, including the use of adaptive devices, techniques, therapies, and medical procedures as needed. Familiarity with Florida Educator Accomplished Practices and Teacher Competencies is also required to ensure compliance with state educational standards.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited educational institution.
  • Valid Florida teacher certification in the appropriate area.
  • Must meet the No Child Left Behind Act regulations and requirements.
  • Satisfactory criminal background check and drug screening.
