About the position

The Technical Illustrator position is a full-time role based in St. Paul, MN, focused on creating and maintaining technical illustrations for assembly and spare parts manuals. The primary purpose of this role is to produce high-quality visual documentation that supports various departments within the company, including engineering, service, and sales. The Technical Illustrator will be responsible for creating exploded isometric view illustrations, which are essential for understanding the assembly and functionality of equipment. This involves illustrating parts from actual piece parts, photographs, and 3D CAD models, ensuring that all illustrations are accurate and up-to-date. In addition to creating new illustrations, the Technical Illustrator will also update existing illustrations as needed, integrating them with spare parts lists using page layout software. Collaboration with production personnel is crucial, as the role requires the creation of assembly instructions and illustrations that are clear and easy to follow. The Technical Illustrator will also be tasked with creating parts lists for technical illustrations, breaking down components for serviceable items, and identifying part numbers for individual components, either by creating new ones or using existing part numbers. Maintaining and updating existing parts lists is another key responsibility, along with printing and assembling manuals for both new and existing equipment. The Technical Illustrator will play a vital role in providing technical documentation that supports the sales, service, and engineering departments, ensuring that all stakeholders have access to accurate and comprehensive information regarding spare parts and assembly processes.

Responsibilities

  • Create exploded isometric view illustrations.
  • Illustrate parts from actual piece parts, photographs, and/or 3D CAD models.
  • Update existing illustrations as needed.
  • Integrate technical illustrations with spare parts lists using page layout software.
  • Work with production personnel to create assembly instructions and illustrations.
  • Create parts lists for technical illustrations.
  • Break down components for serviceable items.
  • Identify part numbers for individual components by creating new or using existing part numbers.
  • Update and maintain existing parts lists as needed.
  • Print and assemble manuals for new and existing equipment.
  • Create and maintain spare parts book manuals for new and existing equipment.
  • Provide technical documentation for sales, service, and engineering departments.

Requirements

  • 2-year technical degree in Drafting and/or Illustration.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience creating illustrations utilizing graphics software.
  • Experience creating axonometric/isometric drawings.
  • Ability to assemble accurate parts lists utilizing SAP database.
  • Experience with Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and Solid Edge.
