About the position

The Technical Project Manager will lead the automation of the ticketing workflow process for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This role requires a strategic thinker with a strong background in IT project management and specific expertise in workflow automation using Microsoft PowerApps and Power BI. The successful candidate will manage complex projects in a government environment, ensuring timely and within-scope delivery of automation initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end management of the project to automate the VA's ticketing workflow process, from initial planning and requirements gathering to execution and delivery.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, and budgets, ensuring that all milestones are met within the agreed-upon timeline.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including IT, operations, and third-party vendors, to ensure successful project implementation.
  • Leverage Microsoft PowerApps and Power BI to design, develop, and implement automated workflows that streamline the VA's ticketing processes.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to gather requirements, identify bottlenecks, and develop solutions that enhance efficiency and improve service delivery.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for project stakeholders, providing regular updates on project status, risks, and issues.
  • Facilitate meetings, presentations, and discussions to ensure alignment between project goals and stakeholder expectations.
  • Prepare detailed project reports and documentation for senior management and other key stakeholders.
  • Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure the project remains on track.
  • Resolve any issues that arise during the project lifecycle, making adjustments as necessary to meet project objectives.
  • Ensure that all project deliverables meet the highest quality standards and comply with relevant regulations and best practices.
  • Conduct regular project reviews and audits to ensure compliance with VA policies and procedures.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for end-users and support staff to ensure the smooth adoption of the new automated workflows.
  • Provide ongoing support and troubleshooting assistance to ensure the continued success of the automation solutions post-implementation.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience as a professional technical IT Project Manager.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience in workflow automation using Microsoft PowerApps and Power BI.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • PMP certification is highly desirable.
  • Strong expertise in Microsoft PowerApps and Power BI for developing and automating workflows.
  • In-depth knowledge of IT project management methodologies, tools, and best practices.
  • Familiarity with IT service management (ITSM) processes, particularly in ticketing systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate complex project challenges.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality results under tight deadlines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in a government or public sector environment, particularly with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Additional certifications in workflow automation, Microsoft Power Platform, or related technologies.
  • Knowledge of federal regulations and compliance requirements related to IT projects.
