About the position

The Technical Lab Specialist at Quest Diagnostics is responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination, and evaluation of all technical and operational activities within the laboratory. This role emphasizes maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and integrity while ensuring efficient laboratory operations. The position requires collaboration with supervisors and other staff to develop and manage testing processes, documentation, and compliance with regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and documents all competency testing assuring completeness and timeliness.
  • Works with supervisors to develop lists for new testing and to alter current documents as required.
  • Creates new and altered documents for testing processes.
  • Tracks proficiency testing and monitors turnaround times from arrival to placement in the testing department.
  • Develops and maintains a database for tracking proficiency testing processes and corrective actions.
  • Reviews corrected reports data monthly and collaborates with supervisors on corrective actions.
  • Assists supervisors in preparation for inspections by in-house, corporate, and accrediting agencies.
  • Observes performance of technical SOPs covering each general bench site annually and documents deviations.
  • Tabulates positivity data and reports to corporate entities as required.
  • Performs hardcopy and electronic reporting to state, county, and local agencies, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Maintains State reporting test file and collaborates with the Medical Director on report formats.
  • Reviews reports for all tests annually and performs system tests of data transmission accuracy.
  • Monitors instrument-to-instrument accuracy and maintains electronic and hardcopy records.
  • Reviews equipment maintenance and calibration records monthly, ensuring compliance with standards.
  • Develops means to monitor turnaround time from order login to test completion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • At least three years of clinical laboratory experience.
  • Experience with competency management and technical training.
  • Familiarity with laboratory regulations and accreditation standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Access.

Nice-to-haves

  • Preferred experience in government agency reporting.
