About the position

The Technical Manager - Electrical Engineering at General Dynamics Mission Systems is responsible for leading and managing the electrical engineering team within the Torpedo Systems Group. This role involves overseeing complex project initiatives, providing guidance to engineers, and ensuring the successful execution of engineering development life cycles for torpedo guidance systems. The position requires a blend of functional management and direct program involvement, emphasizing leadership, technical expertise, and collaboration across multi-disciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the electrical engineering team for the Torpedo Systems Group.
  • Oversee requirements analysis, design, development, test, and evaluation of torpedo guidance systems.
  • Demonstrate leadership on complex programs with multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
  • Manage engineering expertise to meet business objectives through effective planning and execution.
  • Lead the engineering development life cycle, including concept, requirements, design, implementation, and test phases.
  • Analyze customer specifications and test results to determine feasibility of design or application.
  • Perform component and architecture trade studies to determine optimal system solutions.
  • Research, plan, design, and provide guidance for analog and digital electronic circuits.
  • Develop technical presentations and documentation to explain technical issues to management and customers.
  • Generate design and interface documentation and develop test criteria.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent experience with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Department of Defense Secret security clearance is preferred at time of hire, but must be obtainable.
  • U.S. citizenship is required due to the nature of work performed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in preparation of cost and schedule estimates for design tasks.
  • Demonstrated success building and developing high-performing teams.
  • Proficiency in all phases of electrical design, including SPICE analysis and power analysis.
  • Working knowledge of common communication interfaces such as Ethernet, RS-485, USB, CAN bus, LVDS, and protocols such as TCP and UDP.
