About the position

The Technical Manager position at Dunkirk Specialty Steel, LLC is responsible for providing metallurgical leadership and support throughout the order-to-cash process. This role focuses on the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of processes and products to meet customer demands for quality and consistency. The Technical Manager will ensure compliance with safety policies, promote a safety culture, and lead product development initiatives while managing a team of metallurgical staff.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure personal and staff compliance with safety policies and rules.
  • Promote a safety culture within the organization.
  • Cultivate effective employee relations based on mutual respect and engagement.
  • Prioritize workload for the metallurgical staff based on business demands.
  • Communicate performance expectations to assigned employees.
  • Initiate and implement plans to improve existing process and product quality.
  • Develop and implement manufacturing plans for new products.
  • Measure and improve First Time Through (FTT) quality by unit.
  • Ensure compliance with established quality systems and procedures.
  • Review and investigate customer claims and prepare resolution reports.
  • Lead and manage product development initiatives and projects.
  • Develop capabilities regarding SPC, SQC, Lean, etc.
  • Define and report meaningful metrics related to development and production.
  • Oversee the Specific Product Design (SPD) process.
  • Provide support for OEM qualification activities.
  • Review test results for compliance with product specifications.
  • Determine root cause and implement corrective actions for non-conformities.

Requirements

  • Minimum four-year degree in Metallurgy or Material Science and Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years process manufacturing experience, preferably in an AS9100/Nadcap certified mill environment.
  • At least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Knowledge of stainless, low alloy, bearing steels, and high-temperature materials.
  • Experience in specialty steel processing including AOD, VIM, ESR, VAR, hot working, heat treating, and metal machining.
  • Demonstrated results leading project teams.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with non-destructive and destructive testing.
  • Strong team and project management skills.
  • High-function computer literacy.
