About the position

The Senior Manager of Data Engineering at Allianz is responsible for the technical management and delivery of data infrastructure and pipelines for insurance policy administration systems. This role involves leading technology modernization efforts, capability maturity, and delivery optimization, while ensuring effective project management and vendor relations.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day work direction and allocate tasks to team members.
• Serve as an escalation point to ensure success in assigned areas.
• Assess new processes for alignment with technical areas and prepare recommendations for process improvements.
• Manage vendors and service partners, ensuring compliance with service level agreements and approving billings.
• Identify and implement delivery improvements leveraging people, process, and technology.
• Build and manage relationships with key business and technology stakeholders.
• Create a strategic vision for business alignment and improve processes to achieve business and IT goals.
• Establish regular communications with executives and department heads regarding IT activities.
• Manage delivery to project/program budgets and review IT system performance.
• Benchmark, analyze, and report on IT infrastructure and systems for improvement recommendations.
• Develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT initiatives.
• Direct research on potential technology solutions and implementations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 8+ years of experience in data engineering or related roles.
• 4+ years of people and vendor management experience.
• 4+ years of project and delivery management experience.
• Deep understanding of database design, data modeling, and ETL processes with 7+ years of practical exposure.
• 2+ years of experience with Cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud Platform.
• Experience with Azure data platform technologies such as Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, and Synapse is preferred.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Very strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with stakeholders.
• Demonstrated proactive problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
• Emotional maturity and resourcefulness as a team player.
