Our mission as EG's Tax Technology team is to provide scalable Tax solutions to support ever-changing tax rules and regulations at a global level. We are seeking a Senior Analyst, Tax Technology to be a member of our Global Tax Platform Program. The Global Tax Platform Program is comprised of tax technology professionals and software engineers that are responsible for providing end-to-end global tax compliance solutions, including sales and use taxes, lodging taxes, car rental fees/taxes, value-added taxes, goods and services taxes, and other consumption taxes. This position is focused primarily on tax engine configurations for the Tax Compliance function through Expedia's software systems, though there may be opportunities for broader exposure to other tax systems projects. In this role, you will be responsible for the configuration and ongoing maintenance of Tax Engines for Tax determination and Tax Compliance, specifically working with AvaTax, Vertex, and Trippz. You will maintain tax content in the third-party tax engines, research and document tax rate content as needed to support company and tax initiatives, and support Tax Engine API integration with transaction data systems. You will work closely with tax teams and engineering teams to support key compliance and tax filing processes during monthly, quarterly, and year-end cycles. Additionally, you will test and validate key data for use in the tax compliance process to ensure accuracy and completeness. Your responsibilities will also include technical troubleshooting for tax issues, which involves pulling data from databases, reviewing XML/JSON logs, and understanding the error codes returned by Tax Engines. You will perform routine audits of key tax attributes, identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and efficiency gains, and partner with tax business stakeholders to gather tax requirements and design, develop, test, document, implement, and support solutions. Collaboration with engineering teams will be essential to provide Tax Engine requirements and support cross-functional operational issues, support, and projects.

Responsibilities

  • Configuration and ongoing maintenance of Tax Engines for Tax determination and Tax Compliance (AvaTax, Vertex, Trippz).
  • Maintenance of tax content into the 3rd party tax engine(s) AvaTax/Vertex/Trippz.
  • Research and document tax rate content as needed to support company and tax initiatives.
  • Support Tax Engine API integration with Transaction data systems.
  • Close partnership with tax teams and Engineering teams in support of key compliance and Tax filing processes during monthly, quarterly, and year-end cycles.
  • Test and validate key data for use in the tax compliance process to check for accuracy and completeness.
  • Technical troubleshooting for tax issues which involves pulling data from databases, reviewing XML/JSON logs, and understanding the error codes being returned by Tax Engines.
  • Perform routine audits of key tax attributes including addresses, jurisdictional assignments (Geocodes based on Latitude/Longitude), and tax rates.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, efficiency gains and application of tax process and technology best practices by using new and existing technologies.
  • Partner with Tax business stakeholders to gather tax requirements and design, develop, test, document, implement and support solutions.
  • Partner with Engineering teams to provide Tax Engine requirements and design, develop, test, document, implement and support solutions.
  • Work cross-functionally to collaborate on operational issues, support, and projects.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of work experience in Indirect Tax Engines Vertex, AvaTax and Trippz.
  • 2+ years of Vertex implementation experience for a Global company with highly customized Tax systems design.
  • 1+ year of work experience in Troubleshooting Tax compliance data for global Lodging Taxes/Accommodation Taxes.
  • 3+ years of work experience in indirect tax filing, tax returns process for indirect taxes (sales and use taxes, Lodging Taxes, Car Rental Fee/Taxes, value-added taxes, good and services taxes, and other consumption taxes) in both US, Canada, LATAM, EU and APAC.
  • Expertise in pulling data from databases, reviewing XML/JSON logs, and understanding the error codes being returned by Tax Engines Vertex/Avalara/Trippz.
  • Strong project management skills with experience of meeting deadlines and prioritization.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with management, business leaders and cross-functional IT teams.
  • Strong experience with data analytics tools like Alteryx, Tableau.
  • Expertise with Microsoft products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Projects, Teams).
  • Experience developing business requirements, instructional and procedural documentation, and presentations.
  • Results-oriented with strong people and time management skills, highly organized, motivated, and driven to succeed.
