About the position

The Technical Product Development Manager for Drilling Automation at Patterson-UTI is responsible for leading the conception, development, testing, and ongoing support of drilling performance applications. This role requires collaboration with control system, automation, and data science teams to create innovative products that enhance drilling operations. The manager will also coordinate with operations for product testing and deployment, as well as with marketing and sales for product commercialization.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and influence the strategic vision of the Company's automation and controls development roadmap.
  • Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for functional specifications of drilling automation products.
  • Develop supporting technical documentation, including design specifications and test procedures.
  • Develop and manage a quality assurance program for applications before field deployment.
  • Coordinate beta test programs, including rig selection and data analysis.
  • Define beta test acceptance criteria and partner with developers and operations teams.
  • Work with data scientists to analyze data from beta tests and prepare recommendations.
  • Manage product backlog and prioritize development cycles.
  • Liaise with marketing to translate technical specifications into marketing materials.
  • Meet with customers to provide technical information and present at conferences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related discipline.
  • 7 years of professional experience.
  • 5 years of experience in the oil & gas drilling industry with significant exposure to drilling operations.
  • Experience in product development.
  • Experience managing projects.
