About the position

As a Technical Product Manager, you will provide technical information and troubleshooting assistance regarding industrial control systems for both new and used equipment, as well as R&D projects within the Astec product line or other vendors. You will lead a team of Astec Control engineering technicians, providing assistance to the Astec Service support team through phone, remote access, and job site visits, while promoting Astec products. Your role will involve performing diagnostic evaluations and analyzing customer complaints to identify missing configurations, ensuring that customer products are configured and functioning correctly. You will communicate with customers regarding equipment performance issues associated with new or used control systems and work with other departments to address related automation system issues. Additionally, you will advise upper management on product issues identified through technical support calls and on-site visits, troubleshoot electrical and electronic systems, and aid in the startup and commissioning of Industrial Control Systems. You will also assist in final testing of new products and provide feedback on user documentation when necessary. This position requires a strong background in controls systems, the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics, and excellent communication skills. You will be expected to manage customer problems and recommend changes or upgrades to customer controls, while leading a team of support engineers to ensure customer satisfaction and product excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical information and troubleshooting assistance regarding industrial control systems for both new and used equipment.
  • Leads a team of Astec Control engineering technicians.
  • Performs diagnostic evaluations and analyzes customer complaints.
  • Identifies missing configurations to ensure customer products are configured and working correctly.
  • Communicates with customers regarding equipment performance issues associated with new or used control systems.
  • Works with other departments to communicate related automation system issues and provide feedback to resolve any issues.
  • Advises upper management on product issues identified through technical support calls or on-site visits.
  • Troubleshoots electrical, electronic systems, and programming issues.
  • Aids with startup and commissioning of Industrial Control Systems, both remotely and onsite.
  • Advises controls support manager and/or technical writer(s) on user documentation when necessary.
  • Manages customer problems that arise from the use of the product when required.
  • Assists in final testing of new products when required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or associate degree in related field required and/or equivalent experience and knowledge with a minimum of 8 years of related experience.
  • Experience with controls systems, weights & measurements, and a strong background with industrial controls.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and multiple coding platforms related to controls systems.
  • Knowledge of products, applications, troubleshooting, repair, and/or maintenance of Industrial Control Systems.
  • Strong people skills and communication skills (both verbal and written) required.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to manage conflict and resolve issues positively for all parties concerned.
  • Knowledge of database software, design software, development software, internet software, spreadsheet software, and word processing software is required.
