About the position

The Technical Product Manager for Siemens STEP 7 support at Astec is a pivotal role that focuses on providing technical information and troubleshooting assistance for industrial control systems, specifically for both new and used equipment. This position is integral to the Research and Development (R&D) projects within the Astec product line and other vendors. The individual in this role will lead a team of Astec Control engineering technicians and will be responsible for assisting the Astec Service support team through various means, including phone support, remote access, and on-site job visits. The role also involves promoting Astec products through direct engagement with customers and ensuring that their needs are met effectively. Key responsibilities include performing diagnostic evaluations and analyzing customer complaints to identify missing configurations that may hinder the performance of the customers' products. The Technical Product Manager will communicate with customers regarding equipment performance issues associated with new or used control systems and will collaborate with other departments to address related automation system issues. This position requires advising upper management on product issues identified through technical support calls, as well as troubleshooting electrical and electronic systems and programming issues. The role also involves aiding in the startup and commissioning of Industrial Control Systems, both remotely and on-site, and advising on user documentation when necessary. In addition to technical responsibilities, the Technical Product Manager will manage customer problems that arise from product use, assist in the final testing of new products, and ensure compliance with safety regulations by wearing personal protective equipment as required. This role is essential for maintaining high standards of customer service and product performance, ultimately contributing to the success of Astec's innovative solutions in the industry.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical information and troubleshooting assistance regarding industrial control systems for both new and used equipment.
  • Leads a team of Astec Control engineering technicians.
  • Assists the Astec Service support team via phone, remote access, and job site visits.
  • Performs diagnostic evaluations and analyzes customer complaints.
  • Identifies missing configurations to ensure customers' products are configured and working correctly.
  • Communicates with customers regarding equipment performance issues associated with new or used control systems.
  • Works with other departments to communicate related automation system issues and provide feedback to resolve any issues.
  • Advises upper management on product issues identified through technical support calls with customers or on-site visits.
  • Troubleshoots electrical, electronic systems, and programming issues.
  • Aids with startup and commissioning of Industrial Control Systems, both remotely and onsite.
  • Advises controls support manager and/or technical writers on user documentation when necessary.
  • Manages customer problems that arise from the use of the product when required.
  • Assists in final testing of new products when required.
  • Ensures compliance with safety regulations by wearing personal protective equipment as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or associate degree in a related field required and/or equivalent experience and knowledge with a minimum of 8 years of related experience.
  • Experience with controls systems, weights & measurements, and a strong background with industrial controls.
  • Experience with Siemens STEP 7 or Portal is highly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and multiple coding platforms, particularly as it relates to control systems.
  • Knowledge of products, applications, troubleshooting, repair, and/or maintenance of Industrial Control Systems.
  • Strong people skills and communication skills (both verbal and written) required.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, as well as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to manage conflict and resolve issues positively for all parties concerned.
  • Knowledge of database software, design software, development software, internet software, spreadsheet software, and word processing software is required.
