About the position

VIZIO's Product Management team is seeking a Technical Product Manager. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to research new features and contribute to product specifications. The Product Manager will report to the Sr. Director of HW Product Management and provide support to the HW Product Management team. This role involves working closely with engineering and software teams to evaluate product features and help define product behavior and performance goals. The Technical Product Manager will build product feature specifications related to system performance and contribute feature PRDs with details for engineering, chipset vendors, ODMs, and the QA testing process. The position requires effective communication of the technical feature specifications of VIZIO products to various stakeholders, including Management, Sales & Marketing, Quality Assurance, and third-party vendors. The Technical Product Manager will also create and maintain technical documentation and presentation materials to support product roadmaps and specifications. Driving the execution of Product Team specification projects from inception to reporting is a key responsibility, which includes understanding roles and responsibilities for other teams and adhering to integrated timelines to ensure alignment across the team. Collaboration with engineering, ODMs, and vendors is essential to ensure a clear understanding of product feature requests and specifications. The role also involves performing ODM technical design reviews and managing compliance programs for VIZIO's consumer electronics hardware, including high-definition televisions, home theater systems, sound bars, and related accessories. The Technical Product Manager will partner with VIZIO's supply chain to ensure ongoing legal and regulatory product-level compliance and will work closely with the VIZIO Legal Compliance Team to monitor relevant laws and regulations that could impact hardware development or sales. This includes implementing new compliance policies and procedures as needed and communicating compliance requirements to internal teams for reporting or public disclosure.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with engineering and software teams to evaluate product features and help define product behavior and performance goals.
  • Build product feature specifications related to system performance and contribute feature PRDs with details for engineering, chipset vendors, ODMs, and QA testing process.
  • Communicate the technical feature specification of VIZIO products to Management, Sales & Marketing, Quality Assurance, etc., as well as to ODMs, chipset makers, and other third-party vendors.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation and presentation materials to support product roadmaps and specifications.
  • Drive the execution of Product Team specification projects from inception to reporting, including understanding roles and responsibilities for other teams and adhering to integrated timelines to ensure alignment across the team.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, ODMs, and vendors to ensure understanding of our product feature requests and specifications and their capabilities.
  • Perform ODM technical design reviews.
  • Manage and maintain US Federal, State, and Software/Technology Licensing compliance programs for VIZIO's consumer electronics hardware.
  • Partner with VIZIO's supply chain to ensure ongoing legal and regulatory product level compliance.
  • Partner with the VIZIO Legal Compliance Team to monitor Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations that could impact VIZIO's hardware development or sales.
  • Implement new legal or regulatory compliance policies and procedures related to VIZIO's hardware as needed or at the request of VIZIO's Legal Compliance Team.
  • Communicate compliance requirements and compliance data to VIZIO internal teams for reporting or public disclosure requirements.

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field.
  • 1-2+ years of related engineering work experience.
  • 1-2+ years product management and consumer electronics product experience.
  • Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail.
  • Good technical knowledge of specifications and features of TV and Audio products, as well as other modern consumer electronics devices.
  • Experience with regulatory and product safety standards is a plus.
  • Experience with compliance obligations including those mandated by the FCC, EPA, DOE, CEC, DOT, etc. is a plus.
  • Experience with technology licensing requirements such as Dolby, DTS, HDMI, ATSC, WiFi, BT, App partners (Netflix, Amazon, AppleTV), etc. is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to tell complex stories simply and adapt to questions.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects and cross-functional stakeholders simultaneously.
