About the position

The Technical Product Manager (TPM) position at the University of Washington (UW) Information Technology (UW-IT) is a pivotal role within the Research Computing (RC) team. This full-time opportunity is designed for an experienced individual who will oversee the design, operations, and continuous improvement of key services that support the university's research community. The TPM will be responsible for managing petascale-level services, including high-performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence (AI) supercomputers, object storage, and data archive systems. This role is crucial in maintaining a product vision and roadmap that aligns with the strategic priorities of both the university and UW-IT, ensuring that the services provided are not only effective but also innovative and responsive to the needs of researchers. In this position, the TPM will lead implementation efforts aimed at enhancing and improving the services offered by the Research Computing division. This includes collaborating with various stakeholders, facilitating team communication, and ensuring that the services meet the evolving demands of the research community. The TPM will also be involved in financial operations and budget management, requiring a strong understanding of funding mechanisms, particularly in the context of federal grants and academic research environments. The role demands excellent communication skills, both written and oral, as well as the ability to create technical documentation and serve as a liaison between users and technical teams. Responsibilities

  • Oversee the design, operations, and continuous improvement of key services at Research Computing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computing, Engineering, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Four years of experience in service or product management.
  • Experience facilitating team communication and collaboration.
  • Experience in financial operation and budget management.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, technical documentation skills, and user liaison skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a major research university.
  • Familiarity with how research is conducted, especially in an academic environment.
  • Experience using Linux, HPC clusters, storage systems, and other IT infrastructure.
