About the position

As a Technical Program Manager (TPM) at Stripe, you will be at the forefront of driving complex programs that span multiple engineering, product, and cross-functional teams. Your role will be pivotal in shaping the strategy of the Local Payment Methods team, which is dedicated to building innovative payment solutions that connect millions of Stripe users globally. You will collaborate closely with various stakeholders, including engineering, design, analytics, partnerships, legal, and risk teams, to ensure the successful delivery of key initiatives that enhance the payment experience for users and merchants alike. In this position, you will lead the functional and technical delivery of significant programs and initiatives, ensuring that they align with both team and company-wide objectives. You will be responsible for creating functional specifications, project and release plans, and roadmaps that guide the development process. Your ability to influence product decisions and build consensus among peers and managers will be crucial, especially in navigating the complexities and ambiguities inherent in the payments landscape. Your expertise in agile methodologies will help streamline project delivery, allowing you to manage multiple software engineering programs simultaneously. You will also have the opportunity to implement effective mechanisms that enhance program efficiency and scale processes across Stripe. This role is not just about delivering programs on time; it requires a discerning eye for product and infrastructure architecture, enabling you to lead technical discussions and ensure that the solutions developed provide real value to users.

Responsibilities

  • Drive functional and technical delivery of key team and org-wide programs/initiatives.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to design, scope, and shepherd features.
  • Create functional specs, project/release plans, and roadmaps.
  • Own and execute one or more software engineering programs simultaneously.
  • Help drive product decisions to align with program and sometimes higher company initiatives.
  • Help influence peers/managers and build consensus while dealing with ambiguity.
  • Guide and manage the usage of agile methodologies to simplify project delivery.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in technical program/product management, software engineering, systems engineering or related discipline.
  • Consistent track record of shipping products with broad/global customer impact.
  • Demonstrated program management during all phases of software development from kick-off to ship, showcasing critical thinking and thought leadership.
  • Ability to lead technical discussions and discern product/infrastructure architecture.
  • Operate independently and lead efforts across multiple teams and functions, with stakeholders in different disciplines across time zones.
  • Strong understanding of how functionality integrates across products and platforms to deliver user value, with proactive risk identification and mitigation.
  • Strong customer focus and interpersonal skills to build relationships and collaborate with diverse cross-functional teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrable experience with agile software development methodologies and productivity tools.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in computer science, engineering or a related field.
