About the position

The Engineering Program Manager is an integral part of the Autopilot and Electronic Systems Team, overseeing a diverse set of responsibilities including leadership, oversight, tracking, decision-making, escalation, and goal management. This role involves managing end-to-end cross-functional programs for sensing products, leading software and hardware development. The Engineering Program Manager is responsible for both upstream definition and downstream execution, which includes working with diverse cross-functional members to map out requirements, technologies, vendors, intermediate milestones, and success metrics. The position requires leading a fast-paced, enriched portfolio of software features through Agile methodology, utilizing Kanban boards, JIRA Sprints, and Scrum Master operations. Collaboration with engineering leads and managers is essential to set goals, track deliverables, and report through JIRA dashboards during monthly and quarterly reviews. The Engineering Program Manager will also facilitate communication of engineering requirements between Supply Chain and Purchasing for efficient material planning, consolidate inputs from across Tesla for executive reviews, and highlight risks and opportunities. Constant improvement of processes to enhance precision and dependability while preserving Tesla's agile culture is a key responsibility. Strong and confident leadership is required through rapid development cycles, changing requirements, and uncertainty.

Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end cross-functional programs for sensing products, leading software and hardware development

Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent experience and proof of exceptional abilities
  • 1+ years' experience in product development, ideally with product shipping experience in medium-to-high volume industry
  • Demonstrated ability to understand complex development projects and identify critical elements
  • Detail oriented with strong documentation and organizational skills
  • Ability to work cross functionally between engineering, production, and supply chain personnel

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work cross-functionally between engineering, suppliers, testing, manufacturing, production, and supply chain personnel preferred
  • Experience in planning activities and vendor management in an engineering environment preferred
  • Individual contributor design engineering experience in electromechanical products preferred
