About the position

The Technical Program Manager (TPM) on the Automation Engineering Controls team at Tesla is responsible for managing technical projects throughout their lifecycle, from concept to mass production. This role involves leading cross-functional teams to design, build, and deploy automation solutions for Tesla's Battery Cell and Energy factories, specifically focusing on the production of 4680 battery cells. The TPM will ensure effective collaboration across various engineering disciplines and manage supplier relationships to drive project success.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-functional teams in functional testing, installation, commissioning, and resource alignment.
  • Monitor and measure project processes to identify potential issues and provide corrective actions.
  • Utilize manufacturing and controls engineering knowledge to solve commissioning issues and risks.
  • Identify major risks and dependencies and manage them accordingly.
  • Track and eliminate blockers to maintain project momentum.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships for effective communication and information flow.
  • Create and drive advanced product development and execution plans.
  • Interface with line builders and suppliers to ensure optimal supply chain management.

Requirements

  • Experience working on large-scale factory commissioning projects.
  • Controls Engineering experience preferred, with contributions from Electrical, Process, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Design disciplines welcome.
  • Strong English communication and documentation skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical projects for diverse audiences.
  • Experience managing engineering projects and coordinating complex cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to remain engaged and positive in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a greenfield factory commissioning project from beginning to end.
  • Experience in a high-speed manufacturing environment such as battery cells or automotive suppliers.
  • Experience in manufacturing controls development in any PLC platform.
  • Familiarity with project management methodology and tools like Jira.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 70E and UL508A.
