About the position

The Technical Project Manager position at the University of California, Berkeley, is a pivotal role within the University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) department. This position is responsible for managing technical projects that align with the CADS Replacement initiative, ensuring that all projects are executed efficiently and effectively. The Technical Project Manager will oversee the entire project lifecycle, from initiation through completion, applying advanced project management methodologies such as Agile, Waterfall, and Lean. This role requires a high degree of collaboration with various departmental and cross-functional teams, ensuring that all project objectives are met within the defined scope, schedule, and budget. In this role, the Technical Project Manager will be tasked with planning, coordinating, and monitoring all aspects of the projects, including requirements gathering, resource allocation, risk management, and deliverable tracking. The position demands strong leadership skills, as the manager will assemble and direct large project teams, develop detailed project plans, and ensure that all project activities are aligned with the strategic goals of the organization. The Technical Project Manager will also engage with stakeholders at all levels, providing updates and managing communications throughout the project lifecycle. Additionally, the Technical Project Manager will play a crucial role in the development and implementation of project management tools and proposals, leading parallel projects that support the database conversion initiative. This includes initiating, designing, and leading project proposals and reports, as well as participating in professional development activities to enhance their knowledge and efficiency in data management work. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving, with the ability to anticipate project obstacles and plan for contingencies effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Apply advanced technical project management concepts using various PM methodologies to manage complex projects and deliver project objectives.
  • Lead the development and implementation of project management tools and proposals, engaging with other program and project managers within UDAR's technical PM community.
  • Assemble and direct large project teams, developing detailed project plans and schedules while monitoring budget and resources.
  • Oversee project activities from initiation through delivery, including system integration, project communications, vendor interactions, and risk management.
  • Align projects and programs with broad organizational strategic goals, utilizing function-specific knowledge to make informed decisions.
  • Participate in professional development related to project management to enhance knowledge and efficiency.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years experience in selecting, applying, and implementing project management methods and techniques.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in anticipating project obstacles and planning for contingencies, with proven problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • High level of verbal and written communication skills, with professionalism in interactions at all organizational levels.
  • Proven leadership ability and effective problem-solving skills, with the capacity to influence shared decision-making.
  • Advanced organization and project management skills, with strong conceptual and planning abilities to analyze diverse projects.
  • Experience leading a team of technology professionals and integrating critical information across disciplines.
  • Ability to manage internal and external resources to meet project objectives and track project budget expenses.
