About the position

UC San Diego is seeking a Technical Project Manager 3 to join its Information Technology Services (ITS) department. This position is pivotal in managing multiple technical projects that support campus-wide IT initiatives. The Project Manager will report to the Portfolio and Project Management Office and will be responsible for overseeing a variety of projects across academic and business systems, as well as large-scale administrative efforts. The role requires a seasoned professional who can apply standard project management frameworks and methodologies to ensure successful project delivery. The Project Manager will plan, coordinate, and monitor all aspects of project management, including scope, requirements, schedules, budgets, resources, tasks, risks, and deliverables. This involves organizing and leading activities related to project management from initiation through to completion. The successful candidate will demonstrate a full understanding of project management frameworks and methods, and will be adept at resolving a wide range of issues that may arise during the project lifecycle. In addition to managing projects of diverse scope and size, the Project Manager will apply advanced business process and analysis concepts to address complex issues. This role requires a strong ability to integrate critical information across various disciplines and to understand how projects align with broader business strategies and initiatives. The Project Manager will also be expected to develop process and system implementation plans, ensuring that all projects are executed efficiently and effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple technical projects in support of campus-wide IT initiatives.
  • Apply standard Project Management framework processes and methodologies to lean project efforts.
  • Plan, coordinate, and monitor scope, requirements, schedules, budgets, resources, tasks, risks, staff, and deliverables.
  • Monitor projects from initiation through completion.
  • Organize and lead activities related to the management and completion of projects.
  • Demonstrate competency in selecting methods and techniques to obtain solutions.
  • Manage projects of diverse scope, size, impact, budget, and project team size.
  • Apply advanced business process and analysis concepts to resolve highly complex issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related area or equivalent experience, training, or certifications.
  • Effective skill at tracking effort and project progress.
  • Demonstrated highly advanced organization and project management skills.
  • Strong conceptual and planning skills to analyze projects of broad and diverse scope.
  • Understanding of the cost impact of projects and project tracking tools.
  • Ability to integrate critical information across disciplines.
  • Effective communication and organization skills.
  • Basic knowledge of project management principles, theories, and concepts.
  • Attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Proven leadership ability and effective problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of technology-related initiatives and their organizational impact.
