About the position

The Technical Project Manager at the University of California, Berkeley, is responsible for managing IT projects from initiation to delivery, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget. This role involves coordinating cross-functional teams, overseeing project schedules, budgets, and deliverables, and maintaining communication with stakeholders. The position is part of the Communications Infrastructure Design & Build team within Berkeley IT, which focuses on delivering essential IT services to support the university's evolving needs.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the development and implementation process of IT projects involving departmental or cross-functional teams.
  • Plan, coordinate, and monitor project schedules, budgets, staff, and deliverables.
  • Ensure customer requests for projects are documented and outlined in the Project Initiation Request (PIR).
  • Submit Purchase Requests (PRs) for goods and services once a PIR is signed.
  • Open and manage Work Orders (WOs) related to projects in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with Senior Network Engineers to ensure network designs are completed and approved for incorporation in the PIR.
  • Create and review cable ID floor plans and schedules in support of projects.
  • Assemble and direct project teams, design project plans, and monitor budgets.
  • Oversee system integration, project communications, vendor management, and risk management throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Implement the Request for Information (RFI)/Request for Proposal (RFP) process and assist in their creation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Five years of experience working with construction/building trades.
  • Advanced communication, organization, and project management skills.
  • Broad knowledge of IT-related initiatives and their organizational impact.
  • Knowledge of computing and communications, including hardware infrastructure, networking, and software applications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with communications infrastructure and cabling.
  • Professional certification.
