About the position

The Technical Project Manager at UC Berkeley is responsible for managing IT projects from initiation to delivery, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget. This role involves coordinating cross-functional teams, monitoring project schedules and budgets, and implementing project management processes to support the campus's IT infrastructure needs. The position requires strong communication and organizational skills, as well as a solid understanding of IT-related initiatives and their impact on the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Manage specific IT projects with defined beginnings and ends.
  • Plan, coordinate, and monitor project schedules, budgets, staff, and deliverables.
  • Organize interdepartmental activities to ensure project completion on schedule and within budget constraints.
  • Apply professional project management concepts and IT policies in managing complex assignments.
  • Assist in updating and maintaining campus infrastructure standards.
  • Document customer project requests in the Project Initiation Request (PIR).
  • Submit Purchase Requests (PRs) for goods and services after PIR approval.
  • Open and manage Work Orders (WOs) related to projects in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with Senior Network Engineers to ensure network designs are completed and approved.
  • Proficiently use MS Word, MS Excel, MS Project, Visio, and internal programs like ServiceNow and Pinnacle.
  • Work with Development Team for enhancements to ServiceNow, including business process analysis and system testing.
  • Create and review cable ID floor plans and schedules for projects.
  • Assemble and direct project teams, design project plans, and monitor budgets.
  • Coordinate with various IST units to ensure timely delivery of voice and data components.
  • Monitor project progress, including system integration and vendor management.
  • Ensure the ServiceNow Project Module meets DPM project management needs.
  • Implement the RFI/RFP process and assist in creating RFI/RFPs.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and training.

Requirements

  • Advanced communication, organization, and project management skills.
  • Broad knowledge of IT-related initiatives and their organizational impact.
  • Understanding of computing and communications, including hardware infrastructure and networking.
  • Ability to assess campus needs for IT products and design services accordingly.
  • Five years of experience in construction/building trades.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalent experience/training.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with communications infrastructure and cabling.
  • Professional certification.
