About the position

In a Project Management - Technology role at FIS, you will leverage best-in-breed project management tools to deliver innovative products that will transform the fintech landscape. As part of the Transition Management Team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring smooth transitions for Capital Markets Clients. This team, consisting of over 40 professionals located globally, acts as a single point of contact and accountability during implementation projects, supporting both clients and internal partners with technology-related planning and challenges. Your responsibilities will encompass planning and coordinating all aspects of technical projects from initiation through delivery. This includes managing project initiation activities, ensuring that internal technology project requirements align with operational standards, and developing comprehensive project plans that outline scope, activities, schedules, budgets, and deliverables. You will interact with various teams, including product development, sales, and service delivery, to identify necessary resources and define major project roles. As a project manager, you will coordinate activities among project team members and external stakeholders, ensuring that project goals are met on schedule and within budget. You will also be responsible for managing project risks and issues, assisting with problem resolution, and potentially overseeing vendor/subcontractor tasks. Your role will require you to serve as a liaison between technical and non-technical teams, delivering presentations to both technical and business groups, and conducting project closure activities to formalize project acceptance and identify areas for improvement. This position may also involve directly overseeing employees assigned to specific projects, selecting and developing personnel to ensure efficient operations, and identifying areas for improvement in project management processes. You will be expected to perform other related duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the team and the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Planning and coordinating all aspects of technical projects from initiation through delivery.
  • Managing project initiation activities including identifying contractual obligations, client needs and goals, existing situation, necessary contacts and access to existing information as needed.
  • Ensuring requirements for internal technology projects align to operational standards and developing alternate requirements or documenting exceptions as appropriate.
  • Developing, defining and executing project plans, project scope, activities, schedules, budgets and deliverables.
  • Interacting with product development, sales, client relationship teams, technology solutions, service delivery and/or other cross-functional teams.
  • Identifying needed resources for projects, defining and assigning major project roles.
  • Coordinating activities and tasks among project team members, other internal departments and client or vendor/subcontractor organizations as needed to meet project goals and ensure project completion is on schedule, within budget constraints and of the appropriate quality standards for the project scope.
  • Assigning and monitoring work of project team providing technical and analytical support and direction.
  • Interfacing with external clients or field-based employees on technical matters as needed.
  • Managing project risks, issues/problems and activity progress to ensure project goals, e.g., deadline, scope and quality are achieved.
  • Assisting with problem resolution or risk mitigation as needed.
  • Managing the integration of vendor/subcontractor tasks and tracking and reviewing vendor/subcontractor deliverables, if appropriate for the project.
  • Customizing base products to meet client requirements, system integration with other FIS or third-party products or consulting projects and engagements.
  • Serving as liaison between technical and non-technical teams, in internal organizations as well as in client and vendor/subcontractor organizations to ensure all project targets and requirements are met.
  • Delivering informational and decision-seeking presentations to technical and business groups in FIS and/or in client organizations.
  • Conducting project closure activities to formalize and communicate the project acceptance, handover documentation and ongoing activities to accountable teams and completing a post-implementation review to identify areas of improvement.
  • Identifying project management coordination process gaps or areas for improvement, recommending and implementing solutions.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of project management standards, processes, procedures, and guidelines as well as various IT project methodologies and life cycles.
  • Advanced skills with project management software.
  • A bachelor's in computer science, management information systems or business administration or the equivalent experience - PMP (Project Management Professional) certification may be required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Public Cloud Implementation projects (AWS, Azure)
  • Knowledge of the industry project management best practices, i.e., Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK)
  • Knowledge of various types of IT project methodologies and life cycles, e.g., conversions, incremental, rapid delivery, classic or traditional waterfall phases of analysis, design, development, testing, implementation and the correct project application.
  • Skill in the use of negotiation techniques to reach agreement when there are widely-differing viewpoints.
  • Excellent analysis, problem-solving, team, conflict management and time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with clients.
  • Ability to set clear expectations, manage team performance and build high morale among team members.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and carry out assignments that are sensitive in nature.
  • Ability to drive multiple projects at the same time.
  • Prior technical background in Cloud is a plus.
