About the position

PACCAR's Global Electronics department, which supports the Peterbilt, Kenworth, and DAF truck brands, has an opening for a Technical Project Manager - Embedded Systems. This position will lead vehicle function development through the V-Cycle Development Process from requirements definition through system validation for their assigned projects. The successful candidate will coordinate and align global requirements, hardware and software development, electrical development, and testing. This role will involve working cohesively with North American teams and European teams to deliver the next-level Dashboard/Infotainment display that will host and monitor Engine Info, BEV info, OBD Info, and information from other controllers. Additionally, the position will lead VECU development activities to support the next generation of vehicle architecture for BEV, FCEV, and ICE platforms. The Technical Project Manager will be responsible for leading product development through initial design concepts, project budget and schedule development, risk identification, and mitigation, while supporting quality product implementations in a matrixed organization. The role requires serving as the liaison between truck division Program Managers and Embedded Engineering teams to understand program risks, development activities, and technical issues. The candidate will ensure intellectual property coverage for new Embedded Engineering technical ideas, lead technical review meetings related to assigned projects, and coordinate functional safety reviews while tracking the completion of safety concepts. Furthermore, the candidate will build and present product development updates to senior leadership, lead continuous improvement for software design and validation processes, and support ASPICE process integration throughout PACCAR. The successful candidate will also develop, manage, and improve Embedded Engineering department procedures and work with the organization to implement enhancements. They will support department staff with training on procedures and processes related to embedded systems, ensuring that the team is well-equipped to handle the demands of the projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead product development through initial design concepts, project budget and schedule development, risk identification, and mitigation, and support quality product implementations in a matrixed organization
  • Coordinate technical development of components (both hardware and software) with technical leads within the department
  • Serve as the liaison between truck division Program Managers and Embedded Engineering teams to understand program risks, development activities, and technical issues
  • Ensure intellectual property coverage for new Embedded Engineering technical ideas
  • Lead technical review meetings related to assigned projects
  • Coordinate functional safety reviews and track completion of safety concepts
  • Build and present product development updates to senior leadership
  • Lead continuous improvement for software design and validation processes
  • Support ASPICE process integration throughout PACCAR
  • Adhere to PACCAR global corporate standards for embedded system development and validation
  • Develop, manage, and improve Embedded Engineering department procedures and work with the organization to implement enhancements
  • Support department staff with training on procedures and processes related to embedded systems

Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent degree
  • 5+ years of experience in the Automotive field under one or more of the following domains: electrical systems, embedded components, or software systems
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams in a matrixed organization
  • Experience in the full lifecycle process for software development using established project management methodologies (e.g. Waterfall, Agile, Iterative)
  • Experience in component product development lifecycle and new product implementation
  • Excellent communication skills, time management skills, and flexibility with assigned tasks
  • Experience using project management tools (e.g. MS Project, Azure DevOps, Jira)
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical team members and stakeholders
  • Able to work in a team environment and prioritize tasks appropriately
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally for up to 2 weeks at a time, no more than 10% yearly

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree, PMP certification, PE license, or similar additional education and certification
  • Experience in a commercial vehicle or automotive component product development lifecycle and new product implementation
  • Experience using Matlab/Simulink, IBM Rational Rhapsody, IBM Rational DOORS Next Generation, and IBM Rational Team Concert
  • Experience with automotive or commercial vehicle networks, such as CAN, SAE J1939, and LIN
  • Prior experience with ISO26262 and/or ASPICE
  • Proficiency in using requirements management and system engineering tools
  • Understanding of Six Sigma disciplines and tools
