About the position

The Technical Project Manager for Laser Systems will take ownership of a multi-year program aimed at bringing transformative laser technology to market. This role encompasses managing the schedule, scope, cost, and quality of the project. The successful candidate will synthesize product and technology requirements based on inputs from marketing and customers, utilizing design trades, analysis, and laboratory verification to ensure that the project meets its objectives. Collaboration is key, as the project manager will work closely with a diverse team of optical, electronic, software, reliability, applications, marketing, and research professionals to develop and implement advanced technologies and products. In this position, the project manager will structure efforts to define, design, and test various technology elements, including motion control, laser control, sensors, and actuators. They will also be responsible for driving the documentation of system blocks, interfaces, specifications, and ensuring hardware/software compatibility. Planning product testing activities to verify functionality and specifications of Coherent's products is essential, as is validating workmanship to improve workflows, optimization methods, and risk management tools, ultimately making Coherent a more effective development factory. The role will also involve driving the development of the required advanced laser technologies, ensuring that all project milestones are met efficiently and effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Project ownership of a multi-year program to bring a transformative laser technology to market, managing schedule, scope, cost, and quality.
  • Synthesize product and technology requirements from marketing and customer inputs through design trades, analysis, and laboratory verification.
  • Manage design trades between various technical and non-technical requirements to provide direction to the larger NPI program.
  • Collaborate closely with teams of optical, electronic, software, reliability, applications, marketing, and research to develop advanced technologies and products.
  • Structure efforts to define, design, and test various technology elements including motion control, laser control, sensors, and actuators.
  • Drive documentation of system blocks, interfaces, specifications, I/O, and HW/SW compatibility.
  • Plan product testing activities to verify functionality and specifications of Coherent's products and validate workmanship.
  • Improve workflows, optimization methods, and risk management tools to enhance development processes.
  • Help drive the development of the required advanced laser technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline (Applied Physics, systems engineering, precision engineering, etc.).
  • Advanced degree is a plus.
  • Direct experience in systems engineering or a related discipline.
  • At least 3 years' experience working in systems engineering or equivalent, managing requirements capture, analysis, architecture, design, and design verification of complex systems.
  • Experience with advanced semiconductor process equipment and technology is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Leadership and decision-making capabilities.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering related software tools.
  • Hands-on experience building and testing electro-opto-mechanical sub-systems.
  • Attention to detail.
