About the position

The Technical Project Manager position at the University of Washington (UW) is a pivotal role within the UW Information Technology (UW-IT) department, specifically in the Workday Coordination Services (WCS) team. This position is responsible for managing and coordinating project plans for high-profile, complex IT projects that involve Workday modules. The Technical Project Manager will ensure that consistent standards and approaches are applied across all Workday-related projects and initiatives, facilitating collaboration between business partners and technical teams. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of IT infrastructure, including networking, telecommunications, data center operations, cloud-based computing, and security, as well as strong business process analysis and problem-solving skills. In this role, the Technical Project Manager will oversee the timely completion of deliverables, coordinate analysis of business processes, and manage cyclical and ad hoc Workday projects. The position demands extensive project management skills, including financial management and budgeting, and the ability to apply global project management standards and techniques. Additionally, the Technical Project Manager will provide coaching, mentorship, and training to other project managers within the UW, fostering a culture of project management excellence and supporting those interested in pursuing project management as a career path. Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate project plans for high-profile, complex IT projects involving Workday modules.
  • Ensure timely completion of deliverables and coordinate analysis of business processes and service management outcomes.
  • Utilize a broad spectrum of skills including IT knowledge, business process analysis, and financial management.
  • Apply relevant project management practices across all units within UW-IT and business partners.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and training for other project managers at UW.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of four years of experience managing progressively more complex IT projects in applications, infrastructure, and networking.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and experience with enterprise application development.
  • Experience in deploying large, complex systems and implementing business process redesign.
  • Familiarity with project and software development lifecycles and corresponding tools.
  • Excellent communication skills, both technical and non-technical, for diverse audiences.
