About the position

The Technical Project Manager at the Department of Defense is responsible for overseeing project planning, coordination, and execution across various line organizations. This role ensures that technical responsibilities are adequately resourced and that products meet performance, cost, and schedule expectations. The manager will handle proposals, statements of work, and reports to support program objectives and product improvements, while also monitoring project budgets and communicating with various stakeholders to facilitate project execution.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert analysis for task planning, coordination, and execution across line organizations.
  • Ensure technical roles and responsibilities are resourced and products meet sponsor expectations for performance, cost, and schedule.
  • Manage proposals, statements of work, and reports to support annual Program Objective Memorandum and product improvement data calls.
  • Monitor and control project budgets, including assigned funding, and report on the status of funds and projects to sponsors and leadership.
  • Communicate with business teams, financial managers, line management, and technical teams to obtain resources and execute project work.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • Successful completion of a professional engineering degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • At least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower pay band, ND-03 (GS-9/11 equivalent), in developing or evaluating technical specifications for weapons systems projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.
