About the position

Sonoma Technology is seeking an enthusiastic technical project manager to join our team. This position will manage air quality monitoring and measurements projects as part of a team responsible for developing, implementing, and operating regulatory air quality monitoring networks at the fencelines of industrial facilities. These networks are primarily located at facilities in California, with business expanding both domestically and internationally. Other project team members include operations staff, instrument specialists, air quality scientists, field technicians, data analysts, and software engineers. This position is located at our Carson office (Los Angeles area), but candidates in the North San Francisco Bay Area are also encouraged to apply. Responsibilities

  • Manage technical projects according to Sonoma Technology best practices.
  • Meet or exceed project objectives within budget, schedule, and staffing constraints.
  • Prepare and distribute project plans at the start of new projects.
  • Create and maintain milestone lists for tasks and deliverables.
  • Review and approve project invoices and prepare accompanying progress reports.
  • Track accrued costs and revenue for projects, providing regular updates to management.
  • Direct project staff and communicate the context of project tasks and completion timelines.
  • Ensure overall project quality and client satisfaction.
  • Coordinate with technical experts and staff managers to assemble level-of-effort estimates of costs and timelines for new projects.
  • Align and manage project objectives and deliverables between multiple stakeholders, including internal staff, clients, sub-contractors, and vendors.
  • Oversee other Technical Project Managers (for the Senior Technical Project Manager role).

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in either physical science or engineering.
  • Previous experience executing or managing projects - at least 5 years for the Technical Project Manager role, and at least 10 years for the Senior Technical Project Manager role.
  • Previous experience managing project budgets, costs, and invoicing.
  • Proficiency with computer software, including Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • A high level of accuracy, efficiency, and attention to detail.
  • The ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, problem solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Aptitude for working both collaboratively and independently as required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Project management certification (CAPM, PMP or similar).
  • Experience with communication of technical concepts to a broad audience.
  • A strong interest in environmental projects.
  • Previous experience with creating budgets, making quotations, and/or proposal writing.
